Rush thought the Sphere had come too late. Now it has five shows booked
The reunited band will bring the full “2112” suite and the entire Moving Pictures album to five Las Vegas Sphere shows in May 2027.
A new stage for a reunion
Rush announced Thursday that its reunion will reach the Las Vegas Sphere for five shows in May 2027, with the band planning to play the complete “2112” suite and the entire Moving Pictures album alongside other songs. The residency, called “Elevate From the Norm,” will run May 21, 23, 26, 28 and 30.rush +1
For singer and bassist Geddy Lee, the venue initially seemed like a missed opportunity. When he first heard about Sphere, he said, he regretted that Rush was no longer touring: its visual possibilities sounded tailor-made for the band’s shows. Now, he says, the group is expanding its touring concepts for the venue.consequence
Two familiar works, played in full
The commitment is to the seven-part “2112” suite, not a confirmed performance of every track on the album of the same name. Rush has already tested the pieces on its current tour: it played the full suite and Moving Pictures separately during its first week, then combined them in Cincinnati in October, according to JamBase.jambase
The residency’s name borrows a lyric from “Vital Signs,” a song on Moving Pictures, Ultimate Classic Rock reports. The Sphere show will also feature other songs, though a complete set list has not been announced.consequence +1
Returning without Neil Peart
Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson are touring with drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Loren Gold. The shows honor Rush’s late drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, who died in 2020. The band’s 2026 tour opener at the Los Angeles-area Kia Forum was its first full concert since 2015, when the trio played its final show together at the same venue.jambase +1
At the June opener, tributes incorporated Peart’s recorded voice and images. The set included three movements of “2112” and several songs from Moving Pictures, rather than both works in full.rollingstone +1
