A local chip-supply move gets a buyer

The Dayton Business Journal reported Sunday that Heraeus Epurio's production facility at 970 Industrial Park Drive in Vandalia, Ohio, is set to be acquired by Brewer Science as the region builds its semiconductor manufacturing profile.bizjournals The deal traces to a June 18 agreement for Brewer Science to acquire Heraeus Epurio's semiconductor chemicals business line, including the Ohio production site and related sales and support personnel in Asia.brewerscience +1

The companies did not disclose financial terms in the materials reviewed. Heraeus said the transaction is expected to close on July 31, subject to customary closing conditions, and that the associated employees are part of the sale.heraeus

The target is a niche chemicals operation

The business is not a commodity chemical plant. Brewer Science described Heraeus Epurio as a maker of ultrapure electronic chemicals used in semiconductor manufacturing, including photoacid generators, photo-initiators, monomers, crosslinkers and related specialty materials.brewerscience Those inputs are designed for advanced lithography and microdevice fabrication, where trace-metal contamination can damage chip yields.prnewswire

Brewer Science, based in Rolla, Missouri, has supplied specialty materials and equipment to the microelectronics industry since 1981, with work spanning lithography materials, advanced packaging and materials innovation.brewerscience Pulse2 summarized the acquisition as part of Brewer Science's push into vertical integration, growth and diversification for semiconductor customers.pulse2

Vertical integration is the strategic pitch

Brewer Science co-CEO Sri Kommu called the acquisition a step in the company's "Zero Defects" push, saying materials are becoming more critical to the advanced semiconductor value chain and that the deal should improve reliable global supply.brewerscience Co-CEO Dan Brewer said the purchase supports growth and diversification while adding high-performance materials for customers working at advanced technology nodes.prnewswire

Heraeus framed the buyer as a close industry fit, saying Brewer Science has been a long-standing customer of the semiconductor-chemicals business and brings deep sector expertise.heraeus For Ohio, the significance is more immediate: a specialized chip-materials facility in Vandalia is moving into the hands of a U.S. supplier that wants tighter control over inputs used in advanced fabrication.bizjournals +1
